Health and wellbeing

We are developing a range of groups that focus on the health and wellbeing of our students. Being active and learning to lead healthy lives is so important to ensuring our students benefit from living long, happy and fulfilling lives. We have activities and courses to suit all abilities and levels of mobility and will be developing these further throughout the year. Our students challenge themselves, their fitness and skills through a variety of fun, challenging and stimulating activities that build confidence and encourage a healthier lifestyle

Swim and Gym

We have regular opportunities for groups of students to visit local Gyms and swimming Pools. This is proving very popular and is fantastic for those who want to get fit or improve their level of fitness. It is also useful for those with limited mobility, helping to exercise muscles and improve circulation with gentle exercise.

Students visit public pools during pre-arranged sessions either joining us at the facility or travelling together on public transport. Fully qualified lifeguards are in attendance and our staff assist the students in the pool.

The group develops levels of fitness, enables students to improve their swimming ability and encourages independence by accessing public facilities and using public transport. We anticipate students gaining the confidence and ability to continue these activities once they leave the course. This encourages our students to get involved in their local community and to feel more connected to society. This facilitates important steps towards independence and active participation.

Fitness & Movement

We offer a number of activities including walking, indoor and outdoor sports and games suitable for varying levels of fitness and mobility. The group is small and supportive and helps our students improve their levels of fitness by getting active.

Football Skills

Our football team is aimed at people with varying levels of mobility and fitness, this involves a variety of warm up exercises and football skills and offers the opportunity to have fun, get active and play as a team.

In addition to this course, throughout the year Nottingham Mencap participates in a number of football tournaments. We have our own kit which our students wear with pride, giving the opportunity to have fun, get active and play as a team.
