Wilford Day Service
Our Wilford day service for adults with learning disabilities and autism is based in St. Wilfrid’s Church Hall. The service is open 9am - 3pm, Monday to Friday. Each day in the week is an opportunity to learn, make friends, express yourself, and get active here at Nottingham Mencap. We are proud of what we do here and have trained learning disability tutors delivering sessions which are varied, educational, and fun. We can provide 1-1 support if needed, and we aim to help the people we support reach their potential. Activities include independent life skills such as cooking and using the internet safely, arts and crafts, drama, music, and sports.
How to access Wilford Day Service
The first step is making sure there is funding in place for the person wanting to access the service.

Funding through financial support from Health and Social Care

Where we started.
On the 22nd September 2023, our second weekday provision for adults with learning disabilities opened to those who live in and around Rushcliffe.
The County Council informed local providers that there was a need to open a service, as unfortunately the service running in the area was about to close. We are really passionate about making sure that the local needs are met, and so decided that we would look into what was needed and whether we could take the additional work on.
Those that know us, know that we enjoy a challenge, so we decided, after lots of positive discussions with the County Council, meetings with parents, carers and people attending the current venues, that we would go for it. And here we are!
The St Wilfrid’s Church Hall in Wilford, Rushcliffe had recently had a top class renovation to it’s halls and kitchen. It is also set in a beautiful, peaceful location, beside the Trent and a stones throw from the tram.
It’s been a difficult time for the those attending, their families and carers, so we were really happy to be able to provide a service. We have worked closely with Thera, who ran the service so we have been able to offer roles to those who have expressed a desire to continue working with some of the people they have worked alongside for many years.
As part of our preparation for the new service to start in Wilford, we were really keen to work with the community, so we are now the proud owners of a double allotment plot, which is just 5 minutes’ walk from the Church Hall!
